October 2017 marks the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s nailing his 95 Theses to the door of Castle Church in Wittenburg, Germany and the start of the Protestant Reformation. In celebration of this event, join us on Sunday, October 1 at 2:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary, as our very own Ed Baker and Friends present "Reformation 500 – Martin Luther – A Celebration of Spirit." This original and engaging program features Martin Luther’s prayers, sermons, music, and song, as presented in what Luther called his “Divine Service.”
The combined choirs of First UMC Coral Gables and the Granada Presbyterian Church, under the direction of composer and recording artist Rachel Currea, will also perform selections of sacred music - including four new pieces by Ms. Currea commissioned especially for the 500th year celebrations in Wittenberg. Drs. Bob Gower and Don Oglesby have helped prepare the choirs and will also participate in the program as Jay Brooks accompanies them on the Sanctuary’s Schantz organ. The Rev. Philip Short and Dr. Edward Baker will read and interpret the written words of Martin Luther.
The program and the parking are free! Certified childcare will be provided for all. See history come to life in word and song, in this not-to-be-missed original event!
